Week 10

27/11/12 - Week 10

Ross and James didn't come in today, so to begin with I looked at the current document to see where we were at. Although it still needs a lot of work, it is definitely coming together now. After this I went and looked at the dates for deadlines, and see that our presentation is next wednesday, whereas the document doesn't need to be in till the 10th of December, so decided that we should start work on our presentation, and our openwonderland space.

I first of all tried out open wonderland on the pc's in lab 113, and it didn't work in here so went through to 116 where it worked. I logged in and traveled to the auditorium to see the space, and also tried dragging in a few images.

I watched a video from moodle on how to pitch a game, 1. Good Idea, 2. Gameplay - 60%, 3. Don't start with story, more about platformer, this is how you go through the level, frame the concept.

Me and andrea put together a powerpoint outline for our presentation, we worked through individual slides, adding headings and text, but will struggle to do much more until the other members of our team are here.

I uploaded the powerpoint to the skydrive, and then posted in our facebook group asking everyone to have a look at it, and to log into open wonderland to make sure they can access it.

Week 9

20/11/12 - Week 9

I began this week by taking James' version of the document and merging it into a document merge 7.
Then I asked Ross if he could format the document, as this is what he is good at, he has a good eye for details. He uploaded his version as merge document 8 onto the skydrive.

While andrea worked on the GUI design, myself and Ross worked on the document, filling out some areas which were lacking. I would hope that we will have the document finished by next week.

Week 8

Week 8 - 13/11/12

First of all I got copies from James and Andrea of the work they had done for the document, and I merged these into a Merged 3 Document.

Andrea was asked to continue on with the User Interface part of the document, James the Game World descriptions, and Ross to continue with the story area.

As for myself I renamed some of the headers, took out some unnecessary ones that were added from the templates provided to us, and added in some others including about how the game will make money.

Taking another look at the Baldwin game design document I rejigged some of the headings so that they were in a more sensible order, I also added the graphics assets into the document, and added a cover page then uploaded a version 5 document to the skydrive.

After this I made sure my blogs were up to date and published, as I keep forgetting to publish them!

I uploaded a small to do list of things that needed some discussion within the group to facebook, this is for us to discuss ideas regarding music, game engines etc. This can be done at home before next week.

Week 7

Week 7 - 6th November 2012

There was no blog entry for last week as I was off sick, but did liaise with team mates to make sure that I hadn't missed too much.

This week began with a quick catch up on how work was progressing, I read Ross and James' inputs for the design document and asked them to upload them to our skydrive. Andrea also uploaded our graphical elements into the skydrive, I took copies of them all on my pen drive for putting into the design document.

I put together Ross and James' parts of the document into an up to date version, and also allocated some areas for Andrea to work on.

After this we had a meeting on how we felt the GUI of the game would look, we spoke about the different pickups and what would happen to the graphics within the game when these were picked up. This was agreed by all team members, I looked back at previous notes to see what we had discussed and we went with these, although with a little tweaking.

I continued working on the game design document, completing the areas that I had already committed to working on, along with some others.

Week 5

Week 5 - 23/10/12

We started this week by looking at the tasks, this was to basically continue as we had been doing. This week  I began to put the framework of the game design document together in a more formal way. This included looking at the available templates and taking out some headings which I felt we should at least mention.

We had a team meeting about progress and agreed we were happy about where we were. I then uploaded a first empty draft of the document to the skydrive, and we discussed which sections we would each take to complete. Andrea was focusing on graphics to begin with, me, James and Ross had separate sections, and would continue on once we were finished these.
